GANS achieves first AFIS certification in the UAE

GAL Air Navigation Services praised by GCAA for successful Aerodrome Flight Information Services (AFIS) certification project management at Sir Bani Yas Island H.E. Saif Al Suwaidi – Director General GCAA commented “The implemented AFIS Regulations are the first in this region, and amongst the first in the world. Certification for this service is a new concept, and it has taken a great deal of preparation in order to meet and achieve the high standards necessary for the approval to be awarded. Both Abu Dhabi Airports and GAL Air Navigation Services are to be congratulated for their accomplishment as the first unit in the region to receive this ground-breaking certification”.

Represented by Mr. Mohammed Al Dosari, Director – Air Navigation & Aerodromes (ANA), the GCAA awarded strategic partners GAL ANS and ADAC after the successful delivery of the Sir Bani Yas AFIS project. The project focused on upgrading the airfield with AFIS where there are no full-time ATC services. Mr. Khalid Al Breiki, CEO of GAL ANS said: “Sir Bani Yas Island is the first to obtain the AFIS certificate in the region in a project supported by GAL ANS. This gives us great motivation to continue our hard work and outstanding achievements and to look forward to further certifications and developments in the ANS industry in the UAE and beyond”.

AFIS Officers working in Sir Bani Yas Airport had to be introduced and thoroughly trained up to the rigorous GCAA standards, many other steps were taken to meet the requirements of the certificate such as building a watch tower, installation of technical equipment and upgrading the services provided in this airport.
