Following a directive from the applicable regulator, GANS initiated a project to upgrade the radio operator service to become a regulator-certified Airfield Flight Information Service (AFIS). The project ensured that the guidance of the Civil Aviation Regulations was adhered to and that new equipment, procedures, and training were provided.
The challenging target date was achieved, and GANS became the first unit nationally to implement a certified AFIS operation.
